Abstract |
Organic photovoltaics (OPV) have considerable unrealized potential and are mainly held back by low efficiency. While there is much research being done to improve the technology, few researchers focus on developing a deep understanding of the materials, which would be immensely helpful in optimizing the design. This research project aims to develop a novel technique for imaging the photoconversion pathway in bulk heterojunction (BHJ) organic solar cells using x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). The XAS measurement should allow localization and distinction between free charge carriers and bound charges (excitons) in the BHJ in real time. |
