Abstract

The extremely high fluence and coherence of FEL sources means that extra features beyond Bragg peak locations and intensities are present in crystallographic diffraction patterns from proteins. This extra information can be used directly to phase a diffraction pattern merged from multiple nano-crystal 'hits'. We present a validation of the method applied to a series of fabricated 2D crystals and uncover additional complexities related to individual crystal termination.
