Abstract

In the field of photosynthesis, crystal structures of photosynthetic pigment proteins have provided insights into excitation energy transfer. Using serial femtosecond crystallography (H. N. Chapman et.al, Nature 470, 2011), many of these proteins have been evaluated and recently, a high-resolution structure of phycocyanin was solved. Microcrystals were made using free-interface diffusion (C. Kupitz et.al, Phil. Trans. R. Soc. B 369, 2014) and these crystals were also used to demonstrate delivery of globular proteins crystals in Lipid Cubic Phase using the LCP injector (U. Weierstall et.al, Nat. Comm. 5, 2013).
